Maebe is currently serving as Treasurer and At-Large Representative for the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council in Los Angeles. Upon her election in 2019, she became the first drag queen elected to public office in the United States. Maebe is responsible for forming the Silver Lake LGBTQIA Advocates Committee -the first queer-focused committee in the Los Angeles Neighborhood Council system. She is also co-founder of the LGBTQ+ Alliance of Los Angeles Neighborhood Councils, which is recognized as the first city-backed initiative for the LGBTQ+ Community in the City of Los Angeles.
On the committee level, Maebe serves as Co-Chair of the Budget & Finance Committee, Co-Chair of the Reimagining Public Safety Committee, and Co-Chair of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Housing and Homelessness for the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council.
Maebe is the decidedly Progressive candidate for California's 30th Congressional District, and is dedicated to working on behalf of its entire population -especially our most vulnerable, disenfranchised, and underrepresented neighbors. Her primary policies include, but are not limited to: Universal Healthcare, Housing for All, Education for All, Environmental Justice, Racial Justice, LGBTQIA Rights, Reproductive Rights, Alleviating Homelessness, and Advocating Against War. Maebe is the first and only major CA30 candidate to call for a ceasefire in Gaza. Maebe believes we need to get big money out of politics and put people over profits.
If elected to Congress, the first piece of legislation Maebe would introduce is the Protect LGBTQIA+ People Act in light of the more than 450 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills introduced at both the state and federal levels in 2023.
Maebe made history in 2022 when she won the primary election against seven other candidates, becoming the first openly trans non-binary person to ever advance to a general election for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Maebe is trans non-binary, and her pronouns are she/her/they/them. She hosts, produces and performs in drag shows around Los Angeles in addition to her SLNC duties.
